Prinses op de Erwt

For the short fiction graduation film Prinses op de Erwt, I collaborated with audiovisual student  Sophie Elizabeth Dixon to create the poster, promotional material, film and title graphics for the film. We aimed to capture the film's essence as "een hedendaags sprookje met rauwe urgentie," meaning ‘a contemporary fairytale with raw urgency’, highlighting the struggles of mental health among teenage girls.

In addition, I worked closely with photographer Clara Massen on the poster shoot, which I creatively directed.

The film will be screened at the International Film Festival of The Hague in November 2024. I cannot spread the link of the finished film yet.

Process:

My design process for Prinses op de Erwt began with a lot of talking about and exploring of the film’s core themes in collaboration with Sophie Elizabeth Dixon. I also worked closely with  Clara Massen during the poster shoot, where I took on the role of creative director, ensuring the visuals resonated with the film's emotional tone.

Starting with initial sketches, I focused on visual metaphors like Lotta's layered mattresses, symbolizing her emotional detachment. Throughout the process, I experimented with soft colors and textures to create a dreamy atmosphere that aligns with the film’s narrative. The iterative process of Sophie, Clara and me giving feedback to each other, resulted in these designs.

So, a lot of mixed media, collaborating, being on set and poster-versions further; the end credits:
