DOTS
This project involved creating a publication, focusing on narrative spaces and immersive storytelling in a professional context. This publication is called “DOTS zine” and explores connection.
In the "DOTS" publication, I transformed the theme of connection into a 32-page zine. I went from handwritten cyanotype ideas to experimenting with laser cutting and eventually resulted in a design inspired by the game: ”connecting the dots".
Featuring 12 personal stories, this zine forms a narrative celebrating our shared existence. The publication ends with an open invitation for readers to write their own story, embodying the theme of connection.
The concept included a collaborative storytelling process involving my friends and family. I wrote them an explanation of my project and afterwards asked them to write a short story following up (a word from) the last person’s story. I managed to collect around 25 connected personal stories.
Process:
The publication is riso-printed, which gave it its vibrant green colour. I aligned the chosen words in my document on Indesign so they would precisely overlap in the printed zine. The final step was cutting, after printing, I intricately cut the words out so the pages would be connected through the holes, showing the connecting word on the next page. Then I stapled and cut them to finally give to everyone that helped write the stories for in my publication.
